Residential

HouseDamini This private residence in Lekki was conceived as a contemporary tropical home that balances presence, privacy and performance. Designed as a two-storey luxury dwelling of approximately 1230 square metres, the project explores the relationship between architecture, lifestyle, and creative expression within a controlled residential enclave in Lagos. The architectural composition is defined by a series of interlocking volumes, articulated through clean lines and carefully proportioned cantilevers. The massing strategy deliberately breaks down the scale of the building, allowing the residence to read as a collection of connected spaces rather than a single monolithic form. Materiality plays a central role in the architectural expression. A restrained palette of light-toned masonry, textured surfaces and dark accent elements was selected to achieve a timeless elegance while responding to the tropical environment. Generous glazing is strategically positioned to maximise daylight penetration and visual continuity with the outdoors, without compromising privacy. Spatially, the house is organised around openness and flow. The ground floor accommodates expansive living and entertainment spaces that open seamlessly onto landscaped outdoor areas and the swimming pool, reinforcing an indoor/outdoor living experience. These public zones are designed to accommodate both intimate daily use and larger social gatherings, reflecting the dual domestic and entertainment functions of the home. Private spaces are located on the upper level, where bedrooms and lounges are arranged to provide retreat and quiet separation from the more active areas below. Vertical circulation is treated as an architectural element rather than a purely functional one, contributing to the spatial drama of the interior. Beyond its residential programme, the house incorporates lifestyle-driven amenities like a home cinema, fully-equipped gym, recording studio, sunken lounge and a games area, integrated into the overall architectural language rather than treated as add-ons. These functions reinforce the idea of the home as a self-contained environment; a place to live, create, and recharge. At night, architectural lighting enhances the building’s form, washing key surfaces and revealing the layered geometry of the façade. The result is a residence that maintains a strong presence after dusk while remaining composed and understated. This project represents an exploration of contemporary luxury within a Nigerian context, one that prioritises spatial experience, climatic sensitivity, and architectural clarity, while responding to the unique lifestyle and creative demands of its occupant. The area of the building’s footprint is 350sqm, while the site is 1230sqm.
